Three Rohingya scholars from Tarlac State University (TSU) participated in the Seminar on Refugee Education: Opening Doors, Building Futures held on June 18, 2026, at the Montserrat Center for Religious Formation in Silang, Cavite. The activity formed part of the four-day gathering organized by Pathways Pilipinas, which brought together refugee scholars, advocates, educators, government representatives, and development partners to discuss opportunities and challenges in refugee education and integration.

Representing TSU in the seminar were the three Rohingya scholars, accompanied by Ms. Mely Rose B. Galleon, Liaison Officer of the Office of International Affairs and Linkages (OIAL), and Mx. Cedrick Malicdem, Technical Staff of Linkages Department.

One of the key discussions during the seminar focused on helping refugees navigate essential government services and benefits available in the Philippines. Participants were oriented on the processes and requirements for accessing programs and services offered by agencies such as PhilHealth, PAG-IBIG Fund, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), and the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

The session also provided practical guidance on documentary requirements and application procedures, enabling participants to better understand how they can avail themselves of these services. Among the topics discussed was the conversion of foreign driver’s licenses into Philippine driver’s licenses, an important step toward improving mobility and access to employment opportunities for refugees residing in the country.

Beyond government services, the seminar served as a platform for meaningful dialogue among refugee scholars and stakeholders. Through various discussions and workshops, participants exchanged experiences, shared insights, and explored strategies to strengthen educational pathways and long-term integration within their host communities.

The participation of the TSU Rohingya scholars reflects the university’s continuing efforts to empower refugee learners and support initiatives that promote inclusive education, self-reliance, and community engagement. Through collaborations with organizations such as Pathways Pilipinas, TSU remains committed to opening doors and building futures for students from diverse backgrounds.
