A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was formally signed between the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) and Tarlac State University (TSU) during a ceremony held on March 4, 2026, at Gusaling Watson, Bulwagang Romualdez in San Miguel, Manila.
The event gathered officials from both institutions to strengthen collaboration in promoting and advancing the Filipino language and culture through academic and institutional initiatives. The program opened with welcoming remarks from Comr. Benjamin M. Mendillo Jr., KWF Commissioner and Representative of the Ilokano Language.
In her message, Atty. Marites A. Barrios-Taran, Chairperson of KWF, highlighted the importance of partnerships between government language institutions and higher education institutions in preserving and promoting the country’s linguistic heritage. Representing TSU, Dr. Erwin P. Lacanlale, Dean of the College of Education (COEd), expressed the university’s commitment to supporting initiatives that advance language education and scholarship.
A key highlight of the ceremony was the formal signing of the MOU, which symbolizes a shared commitment to collaborative programs and projects related to language development, research, and cultural promotion. The event also included the presentation of the Aklat ng Bayan to TSU.
The ceremony concluded with closing remarks from Comr. Carmelita C. Abdurahman, KWF Commissioner and Representative of the Samar-Leyte Language, who emphasized the role of partnerships in sustaining efforts to strengthen the Filipino language across academic and cultural spaces.
