Tarlac State University (TSU), through the Office of International Affairs and Linkages (OIAL), was invited alongside selected higher education institutions in the Philippines, as well as international organizations and consortia, to participate in the Migration Kumustahan organized by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. The event was held at Diamond Residences in Makati City, Metro Manila.

The gathering brought together members and delegates from various international institutions and organizations to network and strengthen partnerships with Philippine universities. During the event, Dr. Grace N. Rosete, OIAL Director, engaged in a conversation with a representative from the Canadian Embassy, recalling how TSU became part of the UNHCR CPath Program. Through this initiative, the University welcomed refugees from Malaysia and granted them scholarship opportunities to pursue higher education.

Canada is among the countries that pioneered refugee education initiatives globally and continues to support Asian nations such as Japan, Thailand, and the Philippines in advancing refugee welfare and access to education. Through the Canadian Embassy, Canada assists in the local implementation of these programs and ensures that refugee beneficiaries are adequately supported and cared for.

Initiatives like the Migration Kumustahan further strengthen collaborative efforts and reaffirm the shared commitment of partner institutions to refugee protection, welfare, and inclusive education.

Also present at the event were Prof. Maria Fatima F. Galang, OIAL-Linkages Department Head, and Mr. Marco Polo M. Flores, Head of Strategic Communications and International Marketing at OIAL.
