Mr. Gio Ivan Atencio, a Bachelor of Public Administration student from Tarlac State University (TSU), represented the Philippines in the 5th Youth Network on Drugs Prevention Programme held in Thailand from May 11 to 21, 2026, joining youth leaders from 10 Southeast Asian countries in a regional initiative on drug abuse prevention and control.
Atencio joined the Philippine delegation alongside representatives from De La Salle University (DLSU), the University of Santo Tomas (UST), and Quezon City University (QCU) after being nominated and accepted by the Dangerous Drugs Board (DBB).
Hosted by Thailand’s Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), the 10-day international engagement featured workshops and lecture series, visits to rehabilitation facilities, and presentations of proposed intervention programs related to drug prevention and awareness.
Participants also took part in cultural immersion activities that showcased Thai culture and traditions while promoting collaboration and intercultural understanding among ASEAN youth delegates.
According to the DDB, the program aims to strengthen regional cooperation among youth networks and provide participants with practical exposure and knowledge in the field of drug abuse prevention and control.
Atencio’s participation in the international program reflects TSU’s continuing commitment to developing globally engaged students capable of contributing to public service, international collaboration, and youth empowerment initiatives.
